Parents and Teachers as Allies

Parents and Teachers as Allies is a two hour in-service mental health education program for school professionals. The program focuses on helping school professionals and families within the school community understand the early warning signs of mental illness in children and adolescents and how best to intervene to link the youth with services. It also covers the lived experience of mental illness and how schools can best communicate with families about mental health related concerns.

A team of four comprised of educators, family members, a facilitator, and a person experiencing the symptoms of mental illness will present. Each attendee will receive a monograph containing the signs and symptoms of mental illness in children and adolescents and a packet containing information on classroom tips and resources.

Please be advised this presentation takes the full 2 hours so cannot be scheduled for a 1 hour teacher's meeting. We, also, need advance notice of the presentation date so we can order the monographs and arrange for the packets to be printed.

We already have a list of those wanting the presentation for the 2011-2012 school year so please contact us as soon as you have your in-service schedule so we can schedule a date for your school's presentation.

For more information or to schedule a presentation, contact Michelle Ready, 864-882-5131 or michelleready@hotmail.com.
